How to keep a Mac or Windows computer awake while it is plugged in
- On a Mac, open System Settings, then Battery, then Options, and turn on Prevent automatic sleeping on power adapter when the display is off. On a desktop Mac, it is under Energy Saver.
- On Windows, open Settings, then System, then Power & battery, and under Screen and sleep set sleep when plugged in to Never.
- Closing Archie’s window switches your agent off, the same as quitting. Minimize the window instead.

Why does my computer need to stay on?
Your agent runs on your computer. To read your messages and write its replies, it connects to an AI company over the internet. The rest of the work happens on your computer.
Your agent can work only while your computer is on, awake, and running Archie. Awake means the computer is not in sleep mode.
If the computer is off or asleep, your agent cannot check your email or send reminders on time. Archie can wake a sleeping computer for a routine. The next video tells you more.
Choose a computer that can stay plugged in. Change its settings so it does not go to sleep while plugged in. The steps for Mac and Windows are below this video.
The screen can go dark while the computer stays awake.
Keep Archie open, too. Closing its window stops your agent. Minimize the window instead. That hides the window without closing Archie.
