Features

Skills and the store

Skills, routines and specialists, and writing your own from the chat.

On this page

Your agent takes on the jobs you pick#

Each agent carries only the add-ons you put on it, so it fits the way you work and a reply costs less than carrying every one.

  • On your computer
  • From your phone
  • Since 0.3.1
Where it is
In the Marketplace.
How to use it
  1. Open the Marketplace.
  2. Add the add-ons for the jobs you want this agent to do.
From your phone
Archie Mobile can add an add-on to an agent or take one off.
Limits
  • There is no figure for how much less a reply costs.
  • With nothing added, your agent still answers questions, sets reminders, remembers what you tell it and keeps files.
  • Every add-on is included with Archie, at no extra price.

Every add-on is included#

Every skill, routine, specialist and personality in the store comes with Archie, with no price of its own.

  • On your computer
  • Since 0.2.2
Where it is
In the Marketplace.
Limits
  • A new computer does not get your add-ons by itself. Restore a backup, or add them again.

Written setups for four lines of work#

Tell Archie you rent portable restrooms or event restroom trailers, run a home trades company, or sell homes, and it starts with that work's lists and a few rules.

  • On your computer
  • From your phone
  • Since 0.3.8
Where it is
The rules are on the Personality tab, under Who this agent serves, and the Dashboard card that names the setup opens them.
How to use it
  1. Answer your agent's first questions about what work you do.
  2. Change any list or rule by asking your agent.
From your phone
Archie Mobile shows the lists and their counts, and on iPhone opens on the card that names the setup.
Limits
  • Only these lines of work and lead generation have written setups. Every other business gets lists drafted from what you tell it.
  • The rules are what your agent is told. You still check what it writes, such as an ad.
  • It does not connect to the software these businesses use. The lists fill from chat, email, your own entries and spreadsheets you bring in.
  • It happens at the first questions, and the match can miss.

A written setup for lead generation#

Tell Archie your business sells leads, calls or booked appointments, and it starts with Clients, Sources and Orders lists and rules about consent and promises to clients.

  • On your computer
  • Since 0.3.9
Where it is
The rules are on the Personality tab, under Who this agent serves.
How to use it
  1. Answer your agent's first questions about what work you do.
Limits
  • Only for businesses whose product is leads, calls or appointments. A business buying leads for itself gets no setup.
  • The rules shape what your agent writes. You are still responsible for consent and for what you send.

Job Hunt shows where the people you know work#

Drop in the connections file LinkedIn emails you and Job Hunt shows where the people you know work now, then drafts a note to the right one.

  • On your computer
  • From your phone
  • Not in Archie for Teams
  • Since 0.3.10
Where it is
With the Job Hunt skill on your agent, drop the file into the chat.
How to use it
  1. Download the connections file LinkedIn emails you.
  2. Drop it into the chat, zip and all.
  3. Press Add on the card, then See where they work.
  4. Ask who you know at a company, and it says who to write to first and drafts the note.
From your phone
You can send the file from Archie Mobile or a chat app as well.
Limits
  • It reads a file you drop in and never connects to LinkedIn. A newer file adds new people and leaves the rest as they were.
  • It drafts and never sends. An email draft goes when you press Send, and a LinkedIn note you paste yourself.
  • The file has each person's current employer and title only, and most people have no email address in it.
  • No real LinkedIn export has been brought in yet.

Add-ons bring no code#

An add-on is a text file your agent reads: written instructions plus settings. It brings no code of its own, and nothing in it runs as a program.

  • On your computer
  • Since 0.1.3
Limits
  • An add-on can only use tools Archie already has. A new service, tool or screen comes in an Archie update.
  • The one way to give your agent tools Archie never shipped is an app's address for AI assistants, added under Something else on the Connections tab.

Ask whether your agent can do something#

Ask your agent whether it can do something, and it searches the Marketplace's add-ons for one that fits, or offers to write a new skill when none does.

  • On your computer
  • From your phone
  • Since 0.1.3
Where it is
In the chat with your agent.
How to use it
  1. Ask in your own words, like "can you keep track of my medications?"
  2. Your agent tells you what it found, up to five add-ons.
  3. Say yes in your next message to add one, or ask it to write a skill instead.
From your phone
Ask the same way from Archie Mobile or a chat app, then say yes in your next message.
Limits
  • It matches words in add-on names and descriptions and reads back up to five, so it can miss the best fit.
  • Nothing is added until you say yes in a later message.
  • It searches the copy of the store Archie had when your agent started.
  • On a shared agent only the owner can add one. Anyone else is told to ask the owner.

Write a skill by describing it#

Say what you wish your agent could do, in your own words. It asks a couple of questions, writes the skill, and shows you a card to keep it.

  • On your computer
  • From your phone
  • Since 0.2.2
Where it is
In the chat, or on Build a skill in the agent's sidebar. To fill in the fields yourself, press Build your own on the Skills tab.
How to use it
  1. Tell your agent what you wish it did, like "prep me before a call".
  2. Answer its questions.
  3. Read the card, which names what it assumed.
  4. Press Keep it, or Change something to adjust it.
From your phone
Archie Mobile has a form for writing a skill by hand.
Limits
  • A skill you write can only use what Archie can already do: it is instructions plus permission to use existing tools.
  • Skills, routines and specialists can be written this way. Personalities come only from the Marketplace.
  • The form on the Skills tab offers fewer services than the chat does.
  • A skill you write stays on your agent. Getting one into the Marketplace for other people goes through a review we do by hand.

Connect a service that is not listed#

Connect a service Archie does not list, using the web address of its API and your key, then write a skill that tells your agent which addresses to call.

  • On your computer
  • Since 0.3.0
Where it is
On the Connections tab, under Apps, press Something else at the foot of the list.
How to use it
  1. On the Connections tab, open Apps and press Something else.
  2. Give it a name, the web address of its API, and the key that service gave you.
  3. Write a skill that uses it, and tell your agent which addresses to call.
Limits
  • It works with a service that answers over https and takes a key. A service that will not give you a key cannot be connected this way.
  • Archie knows only the address and the key. You supply the paths in the skill.
  • Reading runs on its own. Anything that changes something waits for your yes, and that cannot be switched off.

College#

Add each class's syllabus and your agent tracks the term: what is due this week, what you need on the final, and the school's own deadlines two weeks ahead.

  • On your computer
  • Not in Archie for Teams
  • Since 0.3.0
Where it is
Add My Classes and Class Planner from the Marketplace (the College pack has both), then add each syllabus on the agent's Knowledge tab.
How to use it
  1. Add My Classes from the Marketplace.
  2. Add each class's syllabus on the Knowledge tab.
  3. If you like, paste your class calendar link from your school's site.
  4. At registration time, give Class Planner your degree audit.
Limits
  • It never turns work in, registers you, or drops a class.
  • It cannot see grades in your school's system, open seats, a waitlist, or a hold on your account.
  • The class calendar link carries only what a professor put a date on. The syllabus is the better source.
  • Reading your school's emails needs a mailbox connected, and the starter credits cannot read mail.
