Bring your agent online · Part 2 of 2

Letting other people in

Approve someone to message your agent, and know what they can do.

This guide is also in Archie: press Resources in the sidebar, then Guides. Where a step says this computer, it means the computer running Archie.

On this page

Once claimed, your agent answers only you. Anyone else is told to ask you for access, and their message is dropped before it costs anything.

Two ways to let someone in#

  1. They message your agent, appear in Archie under “People waiting to message your agent”, and you press Approve.
  2. Or press Add someone, and they send the code Archie shows to your agent in the chat app.

Either way they join as a Guest, with a Remove button beside them. An invite code works once, expires after a day, and Stop accepting this code ends it early.

What an approved person can do#

Can they…OwnerGuest
Message the agent and get answersyesyes
Read its memory, files, and recordsyesyes
Add to and change its lists (on “Talk and add to your lists” or “Everything you can”)yesno
Act through it: send drafts, approve calendar changes (only on “Everything you can”)yesno
Change how it works, or approve other peopleyesno

Guests start on “Talk to your agent”, which cannot act on your accounts. On any of the three settings they read everything it holds, so approve people you would trust with that.

If something goes wrong#

  • Each chat app keeps its own approved list. Only two things reset one: pasting a different connection code for that app, or removing its saved code on the Settings page, under Saved keys (which resets every agent using it).
  • Someone got no reply: they are told once that they aren’t approved, then your agent stays quiet for about an hour. Approve them and ask them to write again.
  • Reset access makes the agent forget its owner and every guest, and issues a new code. It answers nobody until it is claimed again.

Your agent only replies while it’s started and Archie is running on this computer, so a silent agent is more often a closed laptop than a permissions problem.

A step that no longer matches your screen? The other company may have changed its site since we last checked. Tell us which step and we will fix the guide in Archie and here.
