Connecting your xAI (Grok) account

Before you start#

• An xAI account. Sign in with email, an X account, or Google.
• A card. $5 of prepaid credit is plenty to start.
• Somewhere safe for the key.

1. Open the xAI console on this computer, and sign in or sign up.

   The key is shown only once, so one made on a phone has to be mailed to yourself.

2. Add credit under Billing, and set a spending limit.

   SuperGrok, X Premium and other X subscriptions don’t include an API key, and paying for them doesn’t fund this account.

3. Create an API key and give it a name.

4. Copy the key. It starts with xai-.

5. Paste it in the box above.

You’ll know it worked when#

Within seconds, the AI account row reads “✓ Grok (by xAI)” in green.

If something goes wrong#

• Refused right away: copy the whole key again, from xai- to the last character.
• Saved, but no answers: the balance is empty, which Archie can’t check. Open Billing and add credit.
• Worked, then went quiet: check the balance and your spending limit. Either one stops answers without warning.
