Connections

The accounts and services your agent can use, and how each one connects.

What the first run says before connecting#

On the first run, before you connect a calendar or count your inbox, your agent says what it will read, where that goes, and how to disconnect it later.

  • On your computer
  • Since 0.3.8
Where it is
On the first run, on the Which calendar? and Which email? panels.
How to use it
  1. On the first run, press the calendar or inbox card.
  2. Read what your agent says it will read, then pick your account.
Limits
  • Connected this way, the calendar is read only. To let your agent change events, press Reconnect on the account's row and check that box.
  • The inbox count asks no AI, but the count then sits in your conversation, which your agent can read back later.
  • The trash can takes the account off your agent. Its sign-in stays under Settings, Saved keys, and Google or Microsoft keeps its permission until you remove it in that account.
  • If the first run connected nothing, it offers Connect my email, Connect my calendar, and Not now once. After Not now, use the Connections tab.

Connect button under a reply#

When your agent says your calendar, your email, or an app is not connected, a button under its reply opens the Connections tab with the sign-in ready.

  • On your computer
  • From your phone
  • Since 0.3.8
Where it is
Under your agent's reply in Chat, such as Connect my calendar or Connect Follow Up Boss. It opens the agent's Connections tab.
How to use it
  1. Press the Connect button under the reply.
  2. Pick your account and sign in, in your browser, with the boxes you want checked.
From your phone
Archie Mobile shows a line saying where on the computer to press it, since a phone cannot connect an account. Chat apps get the words only.
Limits
  • It shows under a reply that names the Connections tab or an unconnected app. With no calendar connected, it also shows when you name your calendar app or the reply says none is connected.
  • There is no button for a to-do list, since Todoist and Google Tasks are in different places.
  • It opens the screen. Signing in is still yours to do.
  • Chat apps get the words only.

Connect an app's address for AI assistants#

Some apps hand out an address for AI assistants. Add it under Something else, and the tools that app offers join your agent's tools without an Archie update.

  • On your computer
  • Since 0.2.3
Where it is
On the Connections tab, under Apps, press Something else at the foot of the list.
How to use it
  1. On the Connections tab, open Apps and press Something else.
  2. Under What do you call it?, type the app's name.
  3. Under Its address, paste the address the app gave you for AI assistants, then paste its key.
  4. If the app has you sign in on its own site instead, Archie opens that sign-in in your browser.
Limits
  • A tool the app marks as read only runs on its own. Anything else waits for your yes, like every other change.
  • The app has to give you a key or a sign-in. An address that refuses a key cannot be connected.
  • An app that changes its sign-in often may ask you to sign in again after Archie restarts.
  • It has had very little testing with real apps so far.

What you can connect#

Google, Microsoft, Telegram, Discord, Slack, Matrix, Todoist, Fireflies, GoHighLevel, and any service you connect with your own key are reached directly from your computer.

  • On your computer
  • Since 0.1.3
Where it is
On the Connections tab, under Email, calendar, files; Apps; Home devices; and Computer control.
Limits
  • Google Drive is per file: your agent sees only the Sheets and Docs you pick in Google's picker.
  • What your agent reads from a connected service goes to your AI company, like anything else it reads.
  • A service you connected yourself is yours. We make no claim about it working.

Lights on your wifi#

Add Philips Hue, WiZ or LIFX lights from your own wifi, and your agent switches them over that wifi. The request never leaves your network.

  • On your computer
  • Since 0.1.3
Where it is
On the Connections tab, under Home devices, press Look for devices.
How to use it
  1. On the Connections tab, open Home devices.
  2. Press Look for devices.
  3. For a Hue bridge, press the round button on top of the bridge when Archie asks.
  4. Press Add beside each light you want.
Limits
  • To find a Hue bridge, Archie asks Philips once which bridges have reported in from your network. Switching a light stays on your network.
  • What your agent learns from a light, like its name and whether it is on, goes to your AI company like anything else it reads.
  • No locks, thermostats or cameras.
  • The Hue bridge talks to Philips on its own, and Archie has no part in that traffic.

iCloud and other email#

Connect iCloud, Fastmail, Yahoo, AOL, Zoho or GMX mail with an app password you make on the provider's own site, plus its calendar where it has one.

  • On your computer
  • Since 0.2.2
Where it is
On the Connections tab, under Email, calendar, files, choose iCloud or other email.
How to use it
  1. On the Connections tab, open Email, calendar, files.
  2. Choose iCloud or other email, then your provider.
  3. Make an app password on the provider's site, paste it including spaces, and connect.
Limits
  • There is no Sign in with Apple. The app password is the whole connection.
  • The password is kept in your computer's password store and sent only to that provider's own mail and calendar servers.
  • AOL and GMX have no calendar here. For the others, a calendar appears only if Archie found one while connecting.
  • Your agent can do only what connecting proved, such as reading, sending, or the calendar.
