Set up what your agent does
Your agent on websites and apps
Turn on Computer control, and know where your agent stops and hands the job back to you.
This guide is also in Archie: press Resources in the sidebar, then Guides.
On this page
Where there is no connection on the Apps list, such as the utility company or city hall, your agent can work the website itself. Two Marketplace skills are built on this: Statement Collector, for monthly statements, and Form Filler, for long forms (it stops at Submit).
A browser window of its own#
It uses Chrome, Edge, or Brave; if you have none, install Chrome. The window has its own sign-ins: your agent never touches your tabs or logins, and is signed in only where you signed in yourself. Watch it, and step in by clicking in the window.
Turning on Computer control#
- On your agent’s Connections tab, find Computer control.
- Switch on "Let this agent click and type for you".
- Ask in the chat, like "Pay my Riverbend bill". The first time a job needs a sign-in, your agent asks you to sign in yourself.
- Or press Add and paste a site’s address, such as riverbend.com.
- Archie checks the address is real and fills in a name you can change.
- In the browser window that opens, sign in yourself, then close it.
Your password is never shown to your agent or saved by Archie; only the session the site gives that window is kept, on your computer, so you sign in once. When a site signs you out, press Sign in beside it.
Where your agent stops#
These are built into how it works, so your agent cannot talk its way past them:
- A site on your Never on these sites list.
- Password fields: it hands you the window and waits.
- Sign-in codes from a text or an app: always yours.
- Any press it could not undo (submit, send, pay, delete): it shows you the page and waits for your tap. Moving money and signing a contract are always yours to press.
- A job that goes in circles ends after ten minutes, unless you change that under Limits.
When your agent asks you#
You get a chat message with a picture of the page and three answers: go ahead, you do this bit (in the window), or stop. At a final button, tap Press it for me, or press it yourself.
Files the site hands over land in your Archie folder and are sent to you in the chat; for one too big to send, you get its exact path.
Apps on a Mac#
On a Mac, your agent can also work in apps you allow, such as Numbers or Excel, without moving your pointer, and waits if you start using that app.
Ask in the chat and say yes when it asks, or press Add and type the app's name. macOS asks once: in System Settings, under Privacy & Security, then Accessibility, switch Archie on.
The same stops apply, plus no cards you pay with, and Delete, Empty Trash, or Don't Save wait for you. If an app won't take its typing, it asks you to type that part.
A step that no longer matches your screen? The other company may have changed its site since we last checked. Tell us which step and we will fix the guide in Archie and here.
